For those of you that don't know I studied a printed textile design degree and because of this when I first started my journey with Beyond Retro I worked for their Textile Print Archive.
I used to have to go twice a year with them to the Premiere Vision textile show in Paris and those trips have given me some of my fondest memorys.
Back then I didn't have a blog and the reason I started in the first place was to share some of the wonderful adventures I have been on. So here we are on a trip down memory lane to some of my favourite sights and moments in Paris.
Most of these pictures were taken between 2007-2009 and I didn't have a snazzy camera back then so please excuse the quality of some of them.
This is my beautiful friend Coralie working on the Beyond Retro stand at Premiere vision.
Sadly the archive doesn't visit the show anymore and is mostly based in London. You can read more about it here.
If you can imagine the most amazing collection of unusual and special Vintage, times that my Ten and you are getting close to what the Archive is like. I dream that if I won the lottery I would make it my wardrobe.
The gardens at the Palace of Versailles.
Shell grotto and waterfall at the Palace Versailles.
This is Hannah she is one of my best friends in the whole world. On one of the work trips to Paris we decided to stay a on a few more days to explore the City. We are both Marie Antoinette obsessives and so had to visit Versailles. It is here that I had one of the most special days of my life and couldn't have imagined spending it with anyone else. Thank you HMS.
Here I am posing by the window ( couldn't have passed off an opportunity like that). This photo was taken in 2008, black hair and my old lip piercing ( one of many), If you hadn't guessed I am a real rock chic at heart. My dress is a Chinese Silk 1950's gown that I also wore to my University graduation. I still have it as it holds so many special memories.
This picture of Hannah has to be one of my all time favourites, isn't she beautiful!
This is Marie Antoinettes private theatre, we were squealing with excitment as it is breathtakingly beautiful, but you have to be oh so quiet in there.
This is Marie Antionettes farm. It looked like it was a film set and we just couldn't believe how well they had preserved it. It is so serene and still has animals living there, such a special place.
One of my favourite paintings from The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs and Hannah posing with George. George now resides on the staircase at our Soho store. He travelled back with me on the Eurostar from Paris in a huge suitcase. No joke, true story!
Coralie and Bettina outside a Brasserie where the inside is decorated like a train carriage.
The suitcases were at a flea market.
The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs
I can't express how much I love Art Nouveau. The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs is full of rooms and rooms of it, I was over whelmed to say the least

Beautiful Coralie again at the hotel Amore.
Amazing butterfly bell jar at Porte De Clignancourt.
Beautiful counter at shop Merci

Art Deco toilet doors in a Brasserie.
She told me she thought I was beautiful and I was so happy because look at how wonderful SHE is.

If you have made it this far thank you for sharing my Paris journey with me. I am really hoping that I can go back again soon. Craig and I are planning a trip to Barcelona ( another love of mine) so I doubt it will happen this year but who knows.

You can also see pictures from another work adventure to India here, three words Art Deco Palace.
I am behind on all my blog reading but hoping to catch up this evening. Excited to see what you have all been up to.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

ReplyDeleteOh my Kelly, such gorgeous photos. Would live to see Versailles, your friend is gorgeous, as are you, I am a rock chick at heart too xx
ReplyDeleteHannah I could tell straight away that you were a fellow rock chick and very glad to hear it. xxx
DeleteWhat a delightful post with some amazing pictures. The lady at Porte De Clignancourt is simply fabulous and oh so stylish - bet she could tell some stories!
ReplyDeleteI know, I bet she had been trading in that shop for years. It was one of those moments that I regret not being fluent in French so I could have talked the afternoon away with her.
DeleteI'm so jealous you got to visit all those wonderful places! I love your blog, and I think your sense of style is just amazing. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily, I think the same of you too, your blog is my new found favourite. xx
DeleteThis is so lovely Kelly-Marie! It's so nice to see your Parisian adventures! I haven't been there for ten years, I also visited Versaille but it was when i was only 9 so I don't think I really got the significance of it! This really makes me want to go back soon!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good weekend xx
Emma you would LOVE Versailles, I really hope you get to go back soon. xx
DeleteWhat a gorgeous visual feast! I absolutely love that first picture - fabulous does not do that relief justice! And I love both the pictures of you and your friend Hannah at Versailles. And the butterfly bell jar... And the shop counter at Shop Merci... Yes, as I said, a visual feast! Thank you for sharing these divine pictures, and the story of your little exchange with the stall holder x
ReplyDeletePalace of Versailles is now on my bucket list. that private theater is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThe photos made me ache! My body craves travel nowadays and look how beautiful Paris is! I've never been to but I'm dying to visit La Ville Lumiere and explore the streets aimlessly. Beautiful images xxx
ReplyDeleteReally amazing, thanks for taking a journey back. India is one of my passions and I hope to go one day but both Paris and India have so much there is to see that one short trip cannot suffice and several seem out of the question. Did you catch the Maharaja exhibition at the V&A a few years ago? I blogged about it here.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. India is a passion of mine too and I really hope that i can save enough money to go back very soon. There is definitly something magical about that country. I did indeed see the Maharaja exhibition and it blew me away. When I saw the life size Elephant parade I didn't quite know what to do with myself, just so much beauty. I actually saw that exhibiton with Hannah ( my friend above) she is a fellow India fanatic and is actually going there again very soon. I am very jealous and wish she could take me with her.
DeleteI saw this yesterday! But did I comment? I am at my mum's and my internet is all crappy! I hope I am not commenting twice! But just to say, every picture holds something beautiful, including you and your friend! :) you look so lovely sitting in that window and :O What a place! I would love to go back to France! I used to have a black lip ring! Rock and roll stole my soul long ago! ;) Zoë x
ReplyDeleteDon't worry darling you didn't comment twice. I havent had internet either ( due to also being away in the sticks) so wouldn't have been able to publish it even if you had. :) Yay kinda guessed you would be also be a fellow rock chick, bet we will have lot's of guilty pleasure bands to chat about when we meet. ;) xxx
DeleteWhat an amazing trip. I haven't been to Paris yet but I long to go there, hopefully in the next couple of years!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are stunning!! That farm house is so beautiful! Imagine living there!!
